Hizbullah issued a statement expressing its appreciation of stances taken by the Arab leaders in defending the resistance. Here is the full text:
Hizbullah praised the Arab Summit adoption of the items concerning the Lebanese issue. In doing so, Hizbullah expresses appreciation to Arab leaders on their stands, as reported through various media channels, in defending the resistance and voicing their pride of its role and accomplishments, as an honest expression of the Lebanese people`s aspirations, and an affirmation of Lebanon`s belonging and identity.
The statement said: "the grand stand taken by His Excellency the President of the Lebanese Republic, major general Emile Lahoud in making certain truths are called by their names, of which was his calling out the name of Resistance clearly and with no ambiguity, is both natural and consistent with his patriotic behaviour and political conduct of defending the broader constants.
However, a sudden and bizzare attitude came from Prime Minister Mr. Fouad Saniora during deliberations of the summit, additional to his ensuing justifications for his stand, neither logical nor unacceptable by any patriotic sense or criteria.
The simple mentioning of an item on the discussion table in the national dialogue conference does not cancel or blow up the ministerial statement, but it was the duty of the Prime Minister himself to safe keep it in letter and spirit, based on which he and his cabinet received the confidence of the elected representatives of the Lebanese people.
One of the political axioms is being in harmony with the ministerial statement not requiring a governmental decision, contrary to disowning it. How would it be then if that bizarre stand totally deviated from the script officially recited by the Prime Minister in front of the House of Representatives, to end the crisis of the ministerial seclusion around the resistance, when he praised its role and patriotic position for both the past and the future?
Hizbullah considers such political conduct generates negative repercussions and causes offense to the whole of the Lebanese and their national achievements and not only the resistance alone.
