Six Palestinians Martyred in "Israeli" Raids on Gaza
Source: Alalam.ir, 17-6-2008
GAZA--Six Palestinians were martyred and several injured in a string of "Israeli" air strikes on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to medics and witnesses.
The head of Gaza emergency services, Muawiya Hassanein, said that five people were martyred and several others were wounded in an air strike near Qarara village east of the southern town of Khan Yunis.
"The number of dead has risen to five and a number of civilians have been wounded in an "Israeli" air strike that targeted a civilian car in the Qarara area," Hassanein said.
Another two "Israeli" air strikes in the nearby town of Deir al-Balah martyred a sixth person and wounded five people, local hospital officials said.
An occupying army spokeswoman said the air strikes targeted vehicles carrying fighters.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the attacks were an attempt to ruin efforts to reach a ceasefire, and vowed revenge.
On Monday, "Israeli" soldiers stationed on the southern border of the Gaza Strip also killed three Palestinians.
The killings came as US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice held talks with "Israeli" war minister Ehud Barak and caretaker Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Sunday to resume US-backed peace talks.
On Sunday, Rice spoke out against continued "Israeli" settlement activity in the West Bank, one of the thorniest issues in efforts to reach settlement accord.
"Israel's" army frequently crosses into Gaza and launches airstrikes to target Palestinian activists.
