Hizbullah issued a statement to highlight a few points regarding a previous statement issued by the Lebanese Army, which did not firmly deny receiving an order by Prime Minister Fouad Saniora to confiscate weapons belonging to the resistance during the recent "Israeli" war against Lebanon. The Army statement added that there had been some sort of confusion when arms were seized at an army checkpoint, and later turned out to belong to the resistance. The Army statement said that when the resistance requested that its arms be returned to it, it was told that procedures to hand them back fall under legal measures that require a political decision.
The Hizbullah statement said that the party fully understands the position of the army command embarrassed between Saniora and telling the truth. The statement said: "First, we regret to put the army command in such an embarrassing position because of a decline in the method of tackling the July war by the ruling bloc. Second, the Lebanese Army statement acknowledged that a military checkpoint had confiscated arms that later turned out to belong to the resistance, and we know that the army acts upon a political decision, so did the army act upon its own decision or based on the political decision that was taken by Saniora? We have been also informed from specialized sides in the Lebanese army that any other vehicle carrying arms will be confiscated and will not be allowed to pass and that "you have to solve the issue politically with Saniora". Worth mentioning, the weapons are still confiscated until this very hour. Third, the specialized side in the Lebanese army and the army command are familiar with all of the details of the conversation that took place and the mediators who sought to solve the issue with Saniora who insisted not change his position, and they also know how the issue was solved. Forth, we content ourselves with this much because we adhere to the Lebanese Army institution and the way the Lebanese people see it, and if we have been harmed because the army statement told half the truth and hid the other half describing the matter as "confusion", and the fact is that there was no confusion. Finally, if someday a probing panel is formed, the truth will be unveiled when the testimony is made under the oath."
