Palestinians would, hopefully, become capable of governing themselves "over time," US President Donald Trump’s senior advisor Jared Kushner told a US publication, suggesting he believes this is not yet the case.

Kushner, Trump son-in-law, is the architect of the long-awaited "deal of the century", which has yet to be unveiled but has already been rejected by the Palestinians, who say Trump's policies have shown him to be blatantly biased in favor of the “Israeli” entity.

Kushner spoke to Axios prior to the entity’s parliament voting to dissolve last week, a drama that triggered a new election set for later this year and likely pushed back the publication of the Trump administration’s long-anticipated “deal of the century” until 2020.

Asked whether he had confidence in the Palestinians' capacity for governing an independent state, Kushner replied, "That's a very good question. The hope is, is that over time, they can become capable of governing."

He further added that such a demand by the Palestinians was "a high bar. If you don't have a proper government structure and proper security when people are living in fear of terror that hurts Palestinians."
