US Will ’Exact Consequences’ Against ICC If War Crimes Probe Into ‘Israel’ Continues - Pompeo
By Staff, Agencies
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Saturday that the Trump administration will “exact consequences” against the International Criminal Court if it attempts to assert jurisdiction over the ‘Israeli’ entity during what he claimed are “illegitimate” investigations.
“The International Criminal Court is a political body, not a judicial institution," a statement from Pompeo's office read.
"This unfortunate reality has been confirmed yet again by the ICC Prosecutor’s attempt to assert jurisdiction over ‘Israel’, which like the United States, is not a party to the Rome Statute that created the Court.”
The Tel Aviv regime has reportedly expressed concern that it could face punitive consequences for war crimes violations if the ICC decides to ‘accept’ Palestine as a state with the status to file a complaint, as the body's chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda urged last month.
The ICC sparked anger in Washington earlier this year after prosecutors said it would investigate possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan, including those committed by US forces and the clandestine security officials.
