Lebanon Thursday recorded 14 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,778 cases, the Health Ministry said.

Among the newly recorded cases, only one was among travelers arriving from abroad, bringing the total number of positive cases in Lebanon to 142,187 since the virus was first detected in the country in late February. The total number of deaths now stands at 1,170.

A total of 16,733 PCR tests have been administered in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate of the tests in the last two weeks stood at 13.6 percent.

A two-week lockdown that ended Dec. 2 appears to have marginally slowed down the spread of the virus but experts fear that with the holiday season approaching, a surge in cases is inevitable.
