US Sen. McConnell Says Would Support Trump If Nominated in 2024

Senate Minority Leader, Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell said on Thursday he would "absolutely" support former US President Donald Trump if he is nominated as the GOP candidate in 2024.
In an interview with Fox News, McConnell said that the nomination race was looking to be packed for the next presidential vote, with at least four Congress members planning to get into the rink.
The next White House nomination contest is set to be "a wide-open race and fun for you all to cover," McConnell said.
The minority leader also touted the GOP's purported success in the November 3 election, saying that while the White House as well as Senate majority were lost, the Republicans were able to flip the local legislatures in New Hampshire and Montana, which is getting its first Republican governor in some 16 years.
McConnell recently sparred with Trump as he lashed out at the former president over his conduct during the January 6 unrest at the US Capitol.
Trump, for his part, ripped into the minority leader, saying that the GOP will see little respect as long as such leaders remained at the helm.
Nevertheless, during the Senate impeachment trial, McConnell cast his vote against impeaching Trump, thus contributing to his acquittal.
Later in the month, Trump is expected to speak at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference; according to Axios, he is planning to declare himself the "presumptive" Republican nominee in 2024.
