Bibi, Gantz Looking to EU Allies to Help Scuttle ICC Probe
By Staff, Agencies
The “Israeli” entity’s top elected officials have spoken in recent days with senior European leaders in an attempt to enlist their support against a decision by the International Criminal Court [ICC] to launch an investigation into the “Israeli” entity and the Palestinians, “Israeli” broadcaster Kan News reported on Friday.
ICC Prosecutor General Fatou Bensouda announced on Wednesday that she will open an investigation into war crimes committed by the “Israeli” entity in the occupied West Bank, east al-Quds [Jerusalem], and besieged Gaza Strip since 2014.
“Israeli” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and War Minister Benny Gantz, who may be subject to criminal charges by the ICC, has since tried to mobilize allied countries to push the ICC and its next prosecutor, British attorney Karim Khan, to drop the investigation.
The entity also has the ability to "impartially" examine "allegations of alleged violations of international law," according to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, who did not say whether the entity will agree to cooperate with the ICC.
The tribunal is also expected to send a letter to Tel Aviv as early as next week officially detailing the scope of its investigation, Channel 13 reported.
According to the broadcaster, the “Israeli” entity will then have 30 days to respond and will likely argue the ICC has no jurisdiction as “Israel” is not a party to the Rome Statute, the court's founding document.
The move is also reportedly being employed to delay the proceedings until Bensouda can be replaced by Khan at the end of her term in June.
Several officials fear, however, that the ICC will issue arrest warrants against former “Israeli” Occupation Force [IOF] officers in the coming months, the channel added.
