The FBI released footage of the man suspected of placing handmade pipe bombs the night before the storming of Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, in a public appeal Tuesday for help identifying him.

Dated to January 5, the video shows a man wearing a light-colored hoodie and gloves walking around the Capitol Hill neighborhood from several angles, although his face is covered by glasses and a mask.

Still images previously released show features of his Nike shoes. The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

“We still believe there is someone out there who has information they may not have realized was significant until now," said Steven D’Antuono, the FBI's Washington office assistant director.

"These pipe bombs were viable devices that could have been detonated, resulting in serious injury or death," he said.

US authorities have arrested more than 300 people after the storming of the Capitol building by supporters of former President Donald Trump, some charged with conspiracy. Five people died during the riot, which sent US lawmakers fleeing from the chamber.

The Pentagon on Tuesday extended the deployment of US troops in the Capitol until May, but cut the number to 2,300.
