Lebanon registered 46 more coronavirus-related deaths and 3,581 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Wednesday.

The cases were detected among 20,201 tests, with only 10 cases found among travelers arriving at Beirut International Airport. The positivity rate throughout the last two weeks stood at 17.8 percent.

The total number of cases since coronavirus was first detected in Lebanon on Feb. 21, 2020 now stands at 405,391, according to figures released by the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities has risen to 5,180.

The statistics provided by the Health Ministry also show that 2,353 patients are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 and related complications, with 936 in the ICU and 301 requiring ventilators.

The Health Ministry also reported that 3,613 first-stage jabs and 2,590 second-round vaccinations were administered over the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of inoculations since the Feb. 14 onset to 85,603 first-stage and 5,110 second-stage vaccinations so far.

Lebanon has eased many coronavirus restrictions, with malls, hairdressers and various other businesses within the retail sector now reopened. Schools are set to commence again Monday, one week after the initial start date, despite warnings from health experts that another significant outbreak could occur as a result.
