Lebanese Army Helicopters Fight Off Locusts

By Staff, Agencies
Army helicopters sprayed insceticide over the eastern region in Lebanon Friday as swarms of locusts threatened to ruin crops in the already crisis-stricken country.
The Army in a statement said they were spraying intesticide from helicopters over the Baalbeck and Ras Baalbeck as locusts were detected there.
Caretaker Agriculture Minister Abbas Mortada said that the current number of locusts does not present a high level threat to crops in Lebanon yet, according to the state-run National News Agency.
Mortada added that the situation could deteriorate and urged people living near the border with Syria to inform the ministry if they notice any locusts in their area so that the government can promptly respond to the situation.
Some countries in the Middle East are currently battling swarms of locusts that are destroying swaths of crops.
