Trump’s Indictment Back to the Surface: NY Attorney Convenes Grand Jury

By Staff, Agencies
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance convened a grand jury to decide whether to indict former US President Donald Trump on criminal charges, according to US media reports Tuesday.
The Washington Post said the jury will sit three days a week for six months to deliberate on handing the 74-year-old, or his associates, an indictment.
According to the report, this is longer than usually allotted grand juries, which are set up usually to examine a prosecution’s case in secret. The report added that the jury, composed of citizens, will likely weigh in on other cases.
Vance and New York state Attorney General Letitia James, both Democrats, are investigating whether the Trump Organization committed tax evasion, insurance fraud and bank fraud.
Vance initially investigated if hush payments were made to two women alleging they had affairs with Trump, although it expanded. James, who later joined in the probe, said last week that the investigations are “in a criminal capacity.”
The Trump Organization hired Ronald Fischetti, an 84-year-old veteran criminal defense attorney, to represent him in early April.
Trump has called the probes “a continuation of the greatest political witch hunt in the history of the United States.”
