Lebanon recorded 134 coronavirus cases and five deaths over the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Sunday, as it held a one-day walk-in vaccination campaign in remote areas.

The new cases bring the total number of coronavirus infections in Lebanon since the virus was first detected in the country in February 2020 to 541,557, along with a total of 7,763 deaths. Out of Sunday’s figures, 14 cases were detected among travelers arriving in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry held a Pfizer vaccine “Marathon” Sunday for residents of Akkar, Baalbek-Hermel and the Bekaa Valley, where those aged over 60 were able to receive their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Around 3,000 people were inoculated.

Lebanon has successfully managed to curb the second surge in coronavirus infections that had overwhelmed the health sector since the start of the year.

Health authorities imposed a series of lockdowns while a vaccination campaign kicked off in February.
