Mohammad Abu Driyah died of wounds sustained Monday when "Israeli" occupation forces opened fire at him in the West Bank city of Nablus. According to Yediot Aharonot's internet site Ynet, Palestinian sources said that "Muhammad Abu Driyah was granted clemency by "Israel" as part of a deal with Fatah." "In return for his pledge to relinquish terrorism he was released from prison and was allowed free movement throughout the West Bank," Ynet added.
Palestinian sources in Nablus told Ynet that Abu Driyah had been serving with the Palestinian Authority's security forces, and was in a vehicle belonging to the PA at the time of the arrest attempt.
The Palestinians rejected the "Israeli" army's claim however, saying there had been no arrest attempt but that soldiers showered the car with gunfire.
According to Ynet, a Palestinian inquiry established "'Israel' believed Driyah had renewed his involvement in terrorism, as opposed to the amnesty agreement."
