Aoun: Our political and military resistance safeguarded the country
Source: Al-Manar TV, 1-1-2008
The head of the Free Patriotic Movement on Monday said Sfeir "does not represent the public opinion, but rather the Church." The Patriarch, Aoun said, "is free to express his opinion regarding the political situation ... but he does not decide our constitutional powers on behalf of us." He also asked Sfeir to "clarify what is being said" about Bkirki's blessing support for Premier Fouad Saniora's unconstitutional government, particularly that it has assumed the powers of the President of the Republic. Aoun charged that the state of war (US-"Israeli" war in August 2006) "persists and we still live it." He accused the ruling bloc of seeking a "president who would continue the war...and we would not accept such a president. We want a president to stop any war that is being planned." "Our political resistance and the military resistance safeguarded the country," Aoun stressed.
