Iran has urged the UN Security Council to take prompt measures to end the 'deteriorating humanitarian crisis' in the Gaza Strip.
"The humanitarian situation has been drastically failing in the occupied lands especially in the Gaza Strip," Deputy Iranian Ambassador at the United Nations told the UNSC session on Thursday, calling on the body to act to "alleviate the suffering of Palestinians".
The Iranian envoy also condemned "Israel" for its defiance against previous UN resolutions, and demanded the UN's tougher measure on the Gaza blockade and settlement activities.
Also in the session, several other UN member states slammed the Zionist regime's crimes and called for the Security Council's urgent measure in this regard.
The Gaza Strip is facing a catastrophe as "Israel" has imposed a blockade on the coastal area, putting lives of almost 1.5 million residents at stake.
The residents are suffering from the shortage of basic supplies including food and medicine.
The UN has so far passed some 65 resolutions in condemnation of "Israeli" actions against Palestinians. However, the veto powers, particularly the US, have stonewalled the resolutions on at least 42 occasions.
The UN Security Council also approved a resolution on the "Israeli"-Palestinian conflict on Tuesday, without addressing the situation in Gaza. The Tuesday resolution urged intensified efforts to conclude a peace treaty and fulfill the vision that they can live peacefully side by side as independent democratic states.
