Six people have been wounded after clashes erupted between the police and demonstrators in front of the US embassy in the Lebanese capital.
Anti-riot police fired tear gas and water cannons at about 100 demonstrators protesting the "Israeli" offensive on the Gaza Strip in front of the US embassy in Awkar, just north of Beirut, AFP reported Sunday.
Meanwhile, thousands of others demonstrated outside UN headquarters in Beirut against the "Israeli" "Operation Cast Lead" which has claimed over 507 lives since in began on December 27.
People from different ethnic and religious backgrounds have rallied in the US, Italy, Britain, Germany, Turkey, Iran and Nigeria to protest "Israel's" onslaught against the Gaza Strip.
Tel Aviv has launched the incursion in what it described as a bid to stop the rocket attacks on "Israeli" towns. However, later on "Israeli" officials said that the main objective of the military campaign was aimed at toppling the democratically-elected Hamas government.
The Operation Cast Lead which escalated into a ground incursion since late Saturday, has so far failed to achieve the objective.
