Former Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud says "Israel's" war on the Gaza Strip is an attempt to crush the Arab resistance against Tel Aviv.
"Their goal is to clear the defeat they had [in Lebanon]. They don't want the Arab world, like Lebanon, to be a national resistance in the face of "Israel"," Lahoud told Press TV on Tuesday.

"Israel" fought a 33-day war against Hizbullah in the summer of 2006 to destroy the military power of the Lebanese resistance. According to "Israeli"'s Winograd report, the attack backfired to wreak a humiliating defeat on "Israel".

"They thought it will be a very easy victory on one part of a resistance in one of the countries in the Arab world," Lahoud said referring to the ongoing "Israeli" onslaught on the coastal strip, which entered its eleventh consecutive day on Tuesday.

The former Lebanese president made the remarks as "Israeli" tanks, backed by helicopter gunships, rolled into the Strip's largest southern city of Khan Yunis just before dawn.
The city has being shelled ever since.
Palestinian resistance fighters have been engaging "Israeli" forces in Khan Yunis, preventing them from moving deep inside the city.

The president predicted that the "Israeli" "occupiers" will met with a strong resistance if it chooses to enter, the Palestinian territory's largest city of Gaza.
"Israel" launched what it called 'Operation Cast Lead' against the Gaza Strip on December 27 and escalated the incursion into a ground offensive late Saturday night to topple Hamas government and halt rocket firings into "Israel".

The "Israeli" military campaign has failed to prevent Palestinian groups from launching rockets at various "Israeli" cities. The rockets have hit deeper targets inside "Israel".
On Tuesday, a Palestinian rocket hit the southern town of Gedera, northeast of the port city of Ashdod, the "Israeli" army said.

Three other "Israeli" towns were also hit by Palestinian Grad rockets on Tuesday. "Israeli" sources confirmed the attacks, saying that the missiles hit the settlements of Netivot, Ofakim, and Eshkol.
