Labor Minister Mohammad Fneish said that Hizbullah is closely monitoring developments in Gaza and is ready to face all possibilities. "Lebanon is targeted and we do not trust the enemy" he said, but Lebanon is "facing the situation with much awareness and with a unified national position."

In an interview with the Qatari daily al-Arab, Fneish denied that Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah had called for a coup in Egypt in his Ashoura speeches. "The party is keen about Egypt's role and stability. [Nasrallah's] position stems from the need to work to stop the blockade on the Palestinian population and to offer all kinds of support to them," he said. Fneish added that at the least Egypt must not to obstruct the Arab position.

Fneish also said that the attempt to dislodge Hamas, who has popular support in Gaza as well as in the West Bank, has failed. He added that the battle increased Hamas' role although some Arab states are unhappy with this outcome.

Fneish said that contrary to "Israeli" intentions, the resistance spirit has been reinforced in the region and the "Israeli" army no longer frightens anyone. This will have important strategic results, he said, and it will raise a number of questions about the "Israeli" army "which only children fear."

Fneish said that the Syrian-Iranian alliance would be reinforced in the region because it represents the resistance project against the so-called "settlement and moderation line" which is now weakened.

Fneish also said that Hizbullah will not reveal how it is materially supporting the resistance in Gaza. However, he added, Hizbullah's methods have been adopted in Gaza. The party's leadership, he said, makes the appropriate decisions regarding the Palestinian cause in conjunction with Lebanese and regional issues.
