“Israeli” “Maariv” newspaper reported that “Israeli” settlers in the north believe that the “Northern Shield” plan, launched five years ago, has not been implemented in practice, and they have warned of a disaster.

The newspaper pointed out that the plan announced by the enemy’s war minister Avigdor Lieberman, at the time, included improving public shelters, fortifying education and welfare institutions, and strengthening and fortifying health institutions, in addition to fortifying private homes in 21 settlements in the region.

According to the Lieberman, the budget allocated to the plan amounts to about 500 million shekels [about 127 million dollars] every year for ten years.

The newspaper pointed out that, according to Moshe Davidovich, Chairman of the Front-Line Forum in the North and head of the Mateh Asher Regional Council in the North, “It was never implemented, and they pledged to invest money to protect the security of the people of the North. Practically, instead of 500 million a year, they sent less than 100 million. 450 million shekels were sent over five years instead of 2.5 billion shekels.”

Davidovich stressed that "the explosive and sensitive situation requires focused action with larger budgets."

“We saw how fortified rooms inside homes saved lives in the 'Gaza Envelope' and how people hid in them. When there is a Hezbollah infiltration or an intense missile launch, I don’t want to think about the number of casualties that will occur. The blood that will be shed will be in the hands of the government,” he warned.
