Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted on Thursday Army Commander Jean Kahwaji as saying the cooperation in the cabinet and the measures taken by the army proved the success of preventing any security or military spills of the Gaza violence into Lebanon.

He added that the military institution was not affected by political approaches. Kahwaji called for respecting United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and preventing any attempt to drag Lebanon into confrontation without the cabinet's approval.

The paper said Kahwaji aimed upon inspecting army troops in South Lebanon to address concerns on the issue of the rocket-launching from South Lebanon toward northern "Israel". The first is that the army is ready to confront any "Israeli" attack through cooperating with the residents and the Resistance. The second is Israel should not bet on any domestic divisions to launch its attack.

He added that when two Arabs meet to reach an agreement, Lebanon should be their third party.
Kahwaji confirmed that the military institution was ready for holding the upcoming parliamentary elections in a one day and in a democratic competitive fashion. He concluded the army would congratulate the winning party, disregarding the political line of the winner.
