Suleiman: I was the first to call for Arab solidarity on Gaza
Source: nowlebanon.com, 22-01-2009
President Michel Suleiman said that following a phone call he received from the Emir of Qatar, he had been the first leader to call for Arab solidarity on Gaza.
At Baabda on Thursday, Suleiman said that his participation in the meeting on Gaza at Doha "was in line with the national interest and my convictions, and not in response to contrary positions and hasty slogans."
Moreover, he added, "participating in the meeting was a decision approved at the cabinet meeting."
Suleiman denied any "contacts were made or secret meetings were held to exert pressure on me," before asserting that he would have called for a solidarity meeting himself if the Emir of Qatar had not done so first.
