Larijnai: Islamic Revolution a significant event in contemporary era

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Thursday that the Islamic Revolution is regarded as among the most significant events in contemporary era.
Speaking at a special ceremony marking martyrdom of commanders and 800 martyrs of the Islamic Revolution in the province, he said Iran's revolution left incalculable impacts on other global developments.

Once the country was a spying base for the US against former USSR and some 60,000 US military personnel were living in the country who following the triumph of the Islamic Revolution left the country and the US lost one of its most important strongholds in the region, he said.
Since the US interests in the country were endangered, the global hegemony tempted Iraq to trigger a devastating war to defeat the Islamic Revolution but to no avail, he said.

Wise leadership of the Islamic Revolution and its pious people changed the scene against interests of the global arrogance, Larijani said.
The Iraqi imposed war prompted Iran to attain self-sufficiency in various fields particularly in military field, he underlined.
Following collapse of former USSR, the US played a leading role in global developments which was regarded as among darkest period of the history of mankind, said the Iranian Majlis speaker.

The US invaded Afghanistan under the pretext of September 11th attacks to pave the way to attack Iran but since it was crippled in Afghan's quagmire, they abandoned their sinister goal, he pointed out.
Referring to the defeat of the Zionists in Gaza war, he said the good defense of Palestinians in Gaza resulted from their inspiration from the Islamic Revolution and guidelines of late Imam Khomeini.

Unfortunately, certain countries in the region held meetings with Zionist and US intelligence officials to hatch plots against people in Gaza, Larijani said.
The Zionist regime has changed a number of its high ranking military personnel after devastating war in Gaza which is a sign of their humiliating defeat, he said.
