In commemoration of the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, marches went on in Tehran and other cities and provinces across the country Tuesday.

In Tehran, people, who came to streets to renew their allegiance with the founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini (PBUH) and announce their strong support to the Islamic Republic of Iran, marched from eight different directions which all converge in the landmark Azadi (liberty) Square northwest of Tehran.

Although thousands of kilometers away from Iran in Paris, Imam Khomeini set the course of the revolution, urging Iranians not to compromise and ordering work stoppages against the regime. Imam Khomeini had refused to return to Iran until the Shah Mohammad Reda Pahlawi left. On January 16, 1979, the Shah did leave the country, never to return. Two weeks later, on Thursday, February 1, 1979, Khomeini returned in triumph to Iran, welcomed by a joyous crowd estimated at least six million.

The moment Imam Khomeini stepped off the plane was conceivably the start of a new era for a country that has seemed dangerously out of control.
"If Bush's Policies Repeated, Much Worse Fate They Faced"

In a speech broadcast live on state television, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Tehran is ready for dialogue with the United States as long as there is a climate of mutual respect. "It is clear that the change must be fundamental and not tactical," Ahmadinejad said.

"The Iranian nation will welcome true changes and is ready for dialogue in a climate of equality and mutual respect." "The world does not want the dark era of (former US president George W. Bush) to be repeated," Ahmadinejad said. "If some people seek to repeat that experience... they should know they will face a much worse fate than Bush's."

During his presidency, Bush famously described Iran as part of an "axis of evil" along with Saddam Hussein's Iraq and North Korea, while Iranian leaders frequently refer to the United States as the "Great Satan."

"The threats against the Iranian people have been now removed with their resistance and help of God," Ahmadinejad said. "I officially announce that Iran today is a real and true super power," the president said, referring to the country's "scientific achievements" over the past few years.

On the sidelines of Bahman 22 rallies, 17 pavilions presented data sent down by the Iranian Omid satellite. The pavilions also give information about the Satellite. Puzzles of the Omid satellite's images, booklets and CDs containing information about Omid were given to the demonstrators.
On the course of thirty years, Iran has made several crowning achievement on various fields what led the country to walk in the path of advanced countries. It's one of the most independent, self-reliant and self-sufficient countries in the world, analysts say.

Iranian researchers have made several achievements in the field of medicine.

While in the hectic years following the Revolution the majority of surgical operations were performed by Indian and Pakistani physicians, Iranian doctors took matters into their own hands. Today these physicians not only perform all medical procedures in the country, but also save the lives of patients referred to them from neighboring countries.

The past thirty years have witnessed a considerable increase in the number of articles published in medical peer-reviewed journals, as a result Iran now ranks 27th in the world in terms of positive contributions to the field of medicine.
