Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has slammed Brussels for its continued support of Kiev, asserting that Ukraine’s war efforts against Russia are “doomed” to fail.

President Radev, who has been vocal in his opposition to the EU’s stance on the war, on Friday urged the bloc to reconsider its approach, saying, “Europe has no vision for peace.”

Speaking at an annual ceremony commemorating Victory Day, Radev emphasized that Europe lacks a clear strategy for ending the war in Ukraine.

“Eighty years after the end of the most devastating war in human history, we are once again witnessing conflicts resolved through force. Europe seems to have no independent vision for the restoration of peace and instead invests in a cause that, in my view, is doomed,” he said.

Bulgaria’s president continued his speech by expressing serious doubts on whether the EU’s leadership still remained on course in its pursuit of its original ideals of unity and peace, or had drifted away.

Radev said supplying arms to Kiev and the continued militarization of the Ukraine conflict could exacerbate destruction and human suffering.

The Bulgarian leader expressed skepticism over the effectiveness of the EU’s current approach of arming the Ukrainian forces to fight Russian troops in the hope of reaching a lasting peace deal with the Russian side.

He said the current strategy pursued by the EU was only resulting in more casualties and territorial losses.

‘President Radev said he is submitting a request to the National Assembly to hold a referendum on whether the country adopts the euro as its currency.
