The 2025 Democracy Perception Index reveals a sharp global decline in America’s image, with Trump now less popular than Putin, Xi, and even Kim Kardashian.
The 2025 Democracy Perception Index shows a significant decrease in global popularity of the United States, particularly in the European Union, following President Trump's return.
The steep decline comes as Trump continues to disparage the EU, calling it “horrible", “pathetic", and “formed to screw the United States.”
Former NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who now heads the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, said he was “not surprised that perceptions of the United States have fallen so sharply.”
The Index shows that Trump’s personal approval has collapsed globally, ranking lower than Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.
Trump placed last in a list of political, cultural, and spiritual figures, which included Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Taylor Swift, Pope Francis, and Kim Kardashian.
The data reflect a growing divide between how the US views itself and how it is perceived abroad.
As dissatisfaction with American foreign policy and rhetoric increases, especially under Trump's leadership, the credibility of the US on the global stage appears increasingly fragile.
