US President Donald Trump has renewed his confrontational stance toward Iran, warning of vague but ominous consequences should Tehran fail to respond swiftly to what he described as an American “proposal.”

Speaking aboard Air Force One following a tour of the Gulf region on Friday, Trump told reporters that Iranian officials were aware of the urgency behind the proposal, stating, “They have a proposal. More importantly, they know they have to move quickly or something bad—something bad's going to happen.”

Tehran has yet to publicly respond to the alleged proposal. However, Iran has consistently rejected pressure tactics and threats, emphasizing that such an approach contradicts the principles of diplomacy.

Throughout both his previous presidential term [2017–2021] and his current bid for re-election, Trump has maintained a hostile tone toward the Islamic Republic. His rhetoric accompanies a legacy of aggressive policies, notably the so-called “maximum pressure” campaign he launched during his presidency.

This campaign included withdrawing the US from the 2015 nuclear agreement—formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA]—and reimposing a wide array of sanctions on Iran, while continuing to introduce even more punitive economic measures.

Despite ongoing indirect negotiations since April, Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that threats and pressure are futile. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently reaffirmed that Iran would not dismantle any of its nuclear facilities, rejecting persistent demands from the US and some of its allies.

Araghchi also underscored Iran’s unwavering stance on its right to enrich uranium, declaring, “Defending the rights of the Iranian people in the nuclear field, including enrichment, is one of these principles and rights of the people that we will not compromise on.”

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed this position, stating that threats have never succeeded in altering Iran’s course. He emphasized the country's commitment to peaceful nuclear energy, national development, and regional stability.

Tehran has also categorically rejected any effort to expand negotiations beyond the nuclear issue and sanctions relief. It refuses to place its defense capabilities or regional influence on the negotiating table, underscoring its firm resistance to what it views as Western attempts to undermine its sovereignty.

While Trump’s warnings have drawn attention, Iran’s leadership appears unfazed—continuing to insist on principled diplomacy rather than coercive pressure.
