A second man has been charged in connection with a series of arson attacks targeting properties and a car linked to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Stanislav Carpiuc, a 26-year-old Romanian national, was arrested on Saturday by counter-terrorism officers at Luton Airport. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Carpiuc has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson alongside Roman Lavrynovych and others. The charges allege intent to damage property with fire and recklessness regarding the potential endangerment of lives.
Carpiuc, who resided in Romford, is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court at 10am today. His charges cover incidents occurring between April 17 and May 13.
Lavrynovych, a 21-year-old Ukrainian national, was charged last week with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life. The incidents include fires at Starmer’s former residence in Islington, a Toyota RAV4 vehicle he previously owned, and a home in Kentish Town now rented by Starmer’s sister-in-law, Lady Victoria Starmer’s sister. Lavrynovych denied all charges in a police interview and was remanded in custody following a court appearance on Friday. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on June 6.
The arson at the Toyota occurred on May 8, followed by the Islington property fire in the early hours of May 11. The Kentish Town fire, which damaged the front of the house but caused no injuries, occurred on May 12 around 1:30am. Neighbors reported being awakened by fire engines during the night.
A third man, aged 34, was also arrested on Monday in Chelsea, south-west London, on suspicion of arson and remains in custody.
The Kentish Town house, believed to be worth approximately £2 million, is currently occupied by Lady Starmer’s sister.
