Al-Hayat links Alams arrest to possible security threats to Resistance personnel

Al-Hayat daily reported on Friday some of the details pertaining to the arrest of retired Lebanese General Adib Alam on Saturday on suspicion of spying for "Israel". Alam's arrest, the daily said, came after growing doubts that he might be jeopardizing the security of some Resistance personnel.
The daily said that Alam was a member of a professional and well-trained network spying for "Israel", and his arrest was part of a campaign that had been going on for the past few months.
The ex-general had been spying for "Israel" since 1994, when he was still an officer in the General Security Department, the daily said, adding that he had participated in four training sessions in "Israel". "He is an experienced officer in intelligence work," the daily said.
A source told the daily that Alam used to travel using his Lebanese passport to Europe, especially Italy where he would meet with Mossad officers, who provided Alam with a special "Israeli" passport. The source also said that Alam's wife, Hayat, had been a part of the espionage as well.
Al-Hayat reported that the ex-general was worried he was being watched, but even after being reassured by the "Isralis", Alam still got rid of some documents. However, security forces confiscated his laptop, which had a built-in camera that he used to send images to the "Israelis", the daily added.
The security services also acquired Alam's photos, some of which he took in Syria and others of bridges and international roads in Lebanon in 2004, al-Hayat said.
