Minister of State Nassib Lahoud announced in a press release on Friday that he withdrew his candidacy for a Maronite seat in the Metn district in the upcoming parliamentary elections, and would no longer be part of any of the district's electoral lists.

Lahoud added that earlier he had announced he would not take part in any electoral list, if he did not contribute in forming it or setting its criteria.

Lahoud also said that during a press conference on March 15 he had expressed "his view of the electoral battle, and the criteria that should be relied on in forming the electoral lists."

Lahoud explained that his decision to withdraw was based on his will to preserve his "principles, choices, political experience, values, ethics and the national goals" which he worked for through the movement he heads, the Democratic Renewal Movement.

"The electoral process in Metn is based on distributing shares and the sizes of the parliamentary blocs, not on the political content and the national targets we aim to achieve through the elections and which the Lebanese and the citizens of Metn deserve."
