Saheli: Triangle of Lebanese army, Resistance and people triumphed in July War

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc in the Baalbek-Hermel district MP Nawwar Saheli told LBC on Monday that the Lebanese would decide the outcome of the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7 "and not the United States or Syria."

Saheli said that US foreign policy in the region still served "Israel's" interests even under Obama's administration, adding that "the triangle of the Lebanese army, the Resistance and the people" triumphed in the 2006 July War.

"We believe in the army, and we know that they consider "Israel" as Lebanon's only enemy," he said. "When the army obtains heavy weaponry to fight the "Israeli" enemy, we will welcome" handing the responsibility of protecting the country to the army, the MP added.

Saheli also said that Hizbullah's Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah presented a defense strategy before the 2006 July War, and "the war was an example of the strategy's success."

He added that what happened in Baalbek a week ago, a reference to the attack on an army patrol that left four soldiers dead, was condemned by all political parties, as well as by the Jaafar family. This came after some members of the Jaafar family were held responsible for taking part in the attack.

Saheli said that Hizbullah would never falsely accuse the Lebanese Information Services, adding that what the "security services did so far was very good and commendable, but it is our duty to shed light on any mistake" the services committed.
