Forty-five days ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary elections, the Future Movement and the Islamic Jamaa are still considering the possibility of forming an "alliance."

On Tuesday, the Jamaa's deputy chief Ibrahim al-Masri told Lebanese daily As-Safir that negotiations have come to a standstill although there are still chances of understanding.

He stressed, however, that the grouping's candidates in the South, Bekaa, North and Beirut continue with their candidacies and are ready for an alliance with the Future movement.

Lebanese daily Al-Liwaa said the grouping's politburo will hold a meeting on Tuesday or Wednesday to assess contacts between the two sides and adopt a stance.

Meanwhile, Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar quoted Islamic Jamaa sources as hinting that the grouping was ready for talks with the national opposition "since circumstances have changed and all options became open." The sources noted that Prime Minister Fouad Saniora suggested that the Islamic Jamaa head the Saida Municipality, but the answer was that the whole issue was out of question at the moment.
