Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said, "Regardless of the outcome of the upcoming parliamentary elections, no party can deviate from the country's current political path."

In an interview with Al-Jazeera on Thursday, Qassem said, "Hizbullah has no ambition of establishing its own republic."

He said he expected the opposition to win between 67 and 70 seats in parliament, adding, "The opposition will stay united after the elections, and some parties from March 14 could join it."

He denied that Syria and Iran are interfering in Lebanese elections, but added, "Certainly Syria hopes the opposition will win."
