Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun addressed Jbeil residents on Friday and said that his party aims to resolve the contradiction between UN Security Council Resolution 1559, which called for disarming all militias, and Hizbullah's arms.

Aoun said that the FPM and Hizbullah laid the foundations to good relations with Syria.
He also said that the commissions formed to resolve the case of detained and missing Lebanese in Syrian prisons did not make any progress, adding that President Michel Suleiman announced that he will personally follow-up on the issue.

The FPM leader said that his party condemns all political assassinations, including the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri, "and we call for completing the investigation processes into all assassinations without political exploitation."

He assured that the FPM supports "the Palestinian cause and the Palestinians right of return," stressing that the party will fight against their naturalization. Aoun criticized "some who are not making efforts within the international community to prevent the issue."

"The March 14 alliance ran in the 2005 elections on the basis of supporting the Resistance's weapons. Why is it trying to evade its commitment? Is it because the Resistance was victorious in the 2006 July War? Did the alliance fear Hizbullah's power?" he asked.

Aoun said that the national dialogue is the only way to resolve crises, adding that March 14 members and supporters, both who had "lived their lives supporting crimes and bloodshed," did not realize that understanding alone ensures peace.

He added that the FPM has a clear electoral program, and "Lebanon will not be rendered into tribes."
He accused March 14 of not wanting to reach an agreement and "want us to reject openness toward other parties."

"They rejected the ratification of a new and well-studied electoral law. We called for a law based on proportionality, but they insisted on adopting the 1960's electoral law. They do not want the expatriates to exercise the right to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections. They do not want to put an end to sectarianism," he said, referring to the majority.

He concluded that the Council for Development and Reconstruction "is the real cabinet," while he defamed March 14 supporters, calling them a "corrupted public that fights for the current cabinet."
