Sheikh Qassem: Opposition Won Popular Majority, Acted with Civility
Source: almanar.com.lb, 20-6-2009
Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said on Friday that the Lebanese national opposition received an undisputed popular majority out of the parliamentary elections, emphasizing that "the opposition acted with civility and good manners in dealing with the election's outcome."
Sheikh Qassem said that the opposition fostered a balance with the mainstream parliamentary bloc, noting that the parliamentary majority is incapable of committing the opposition to what it rejects. "The presence of the parliamentary mainstream in the majority today means it could initiate proposals and ideas. However, it cannot act alone. It can propose consensus but cannot commit the opposition to what we won't accept," his eminence highlighted.
Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General said that the national opposition supports serious work and thus has called for all to work in finding the right framework to consensus "this will allow us to save the ship."
"Although the opposition did not win the parliamentary majority, it succeeded in maintaining its seats in parliament, the level of votes it received and achieved its goal in remaining in the field," Sheikh Qassem said.
His eminence said that "those who seek peace the "Israeli" PM Benjamin Netanyahu way have to know that we won't accept this because this means that we lose our rights."
Sheikh Qassem explained that Netanyahu's policy is "a message to the world that wants to consecrate the occupation of Palestine and threaten the whole region, his speech is that of occupation and not that of peace and settlement."
