Ajyal al-Salam Association, which is a Lebanese demining association affiliated with Hizbullah, held a ceremony in Nabatiyeh under the auspices of Loyalty to the Resistance bloc leader MP Mohammad Raad to commemorate the third anniversary of the end of the 2006 July War.
The ceremony was attended by Head of the National Mine Clearing Office Colonel Mohammad Fahmi and representatives of the UN, UNIFIL and the Red Cross.
During the ceremony, Raad said that "millions of cluster bombs were dropped by "Israel" on South Lebanon when it failed to occupy Lebanese territory during the 2006 July War," adding that Hizbullah started its evaluation process as soon as the war ended and formed a team to demine the cluster bombs to prevent any injuries and deaths.
He also thanked the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) as well as Arab and international bodies that have supervised the demining process, citing Hizbullah's achievements, "We have cleared 52,000 bombs and mines so far."
Fahmi in turn said that Lebanon lacks the capacity to demine all its regions, noting that "Israel" has dropped one million cluster bombs.
""Israel" provided the LAF via the UN information regarding the locations of where its forces dropped cluster bombs. However, it was useless after the bombs resulted in 300 injuries and 50 deaths," he said, adding that Tel Aviv's cooperation was only a propaganda stunt.
He also said that the LAF is committed to the national demining plan and revealed that 55% of mine fields are cleared.
