After ‘Price Tag’, Barak Tastes the Rampage of “Israeli” Settlers
Local Editor, 7-1-2010
Settlement growth has been a key hindrance to the peace talks. The "Israeli" settlements, built on land earmarked for a future Palestinian state, are strongly supported of the "Israeli" right-wing that does whatever it takes to continue stealing the Palestinian land even if it means sending death threats to their War Minister Ehud Barak.
"Israeli" War Minister Ehud Barak said Wednesday that he would persist to implement the government's decision to stop construction in the West Bank, regardless of receiving multiple death threats apparently from settlers angry over the temporary freeze.
"I suggest we all avoid generalizations," Barak told a Tel Aviv University audience, in his first public reply to the threats. "I assume that this does not represent the people in Judea and Samaria, or any other marginalized group."
We must be clear," he said. "This country has an elected government. When a government makes a decision, that decision must be implemented. "
"As Defense minister, I intend to continue enforcing the government's decision with utmost responsibility, but also with determination," he added.
Deputy War Minister Matan Vilnai reacted angrily earlier Wednesday over reports that far-rightists had sent threatening letters to the former prime minister over his role in the government's freeze of construction in West Bank settlements.
Many failures of law enforcement against "Israeli" settlers in the Occupied Territories, and the discrimination underlying these failures, greatly harm the Palestinians who suffer from the settler's rampage acts on daily basis.
