Turkey Opposes Iran Sanctions
Local Editor 14-01-2010
Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister, says that Ankara is against stating any further sanctions on Iran over the nuclear program. And during his visit to London, Davutoglu told the Guardian newspaper that every country has its right to pursue nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
Davutoglu also added that sanctions hurt ordinary people and neighboring countries, repeating a Turkish offer to mediate negotiations between Iran and the West.
As he was quoted saying: "We don't forget the very bas experience in Iraq. We would advise intensified negotiations through diplomacy. An absence of mutual trust is the problem."
The Turkish Minister reassured that Turkey was against all kinds of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East. "Israel" however, along with the US and their European allies, claims that Iran is working on a nuclear weapon, yet the International Atomic Energy Agency and the US National Intelligence Estimates issued the opposite.
In addition, the UN nuclear watchdog has confirmed Iran's position that it does not have any military nuclear programs, and still the US and "Israel" remain uncertain.
Furthermore, Iran is a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which "Israel" is still one of the only three regimes in the world that has not signed the international treaty.
