Fadlallah: US officials΄ visits harm Lebanon
Local Editor, 18-01-2010
Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Hassan Fadlallah told the An-Nour radio station on Monday that the recent visits made by US officials to Lebanon do not serve the country's interests. Fadlallah added that such visits also aim at showing that the US still plays an influential role in the country.
"Lebanon is engaged in a battle for national sovereignty and freedom against a US draft law aimed at the media," Fadlallah said in an interview with al-Nour radio station.
Fadlallah believed Arab countries cannot come out with a unified media law. "We cannot commit ourselves to media laws developed by other countries," the MP said.
Fadlallah also commented on Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt's expected visit to Damascus, saying that Hezbollah is playing a major role in bringing Jumblatt and Syria closer together
Fadlallah touched on the cabinet's upcoming administrative appointments, saying that his party opposes the politicization of the appointments and favors setting a criterion for selecting candidates based on qualifications. He added that the cabinet needs to reach consensus over a mechanism for making the pending appointments.
.
However, Fadlallah refrained from revealing the timing of the visit or the nature of the upcoming steps taken toward reconciling Jumblatt with the Syrian leadership.
