The visit comes following an invitation from the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov. It is the third such visit since Hamas won the Palestinian elections in 2006.

Meshaal voiced his belief that there could be no chance for Middle East peace under the current "Israeli" leadership.

Speaking at a press conference following his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, Meshaal stated that Hamas wants to achieve reconciliation with Fateh movement as soon as possible.

Meshaal acknowledged that there are a number of obstacles obstructing national reconciliation, citing foreign meddling and pressure, particularly by the United States, as the most important factors hindering such effort.

"Palestinian unity is possible, provided that the United States stops obstructing matters, using its veto to derail the reconciliation process," Meshaal said.

Meshaal sustained that the United States and "Israel" are acting to foil any chances of Palestinian national unity and reconciliation between Fateh and Hamas.

Commenting on the Egyptian document for Palestinian national unity, Meshaal argued that the document was modified without consulting Hamas, and that Hamas will not sign the document before voiding all changes.

Meshaal also held Benjamin Netanyahu responsible for the collapse of indirect prisoner-swap talks between Hamas and "Israel".

"The reason of this collapse is a game Netanyahu is playing". Meshaal added. "We want an honorable swap-deal".
