Iran, Syria Discuss Regional Affairs, Stress on Lebanon Support

Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in Syria Wednesday in an official visit for talks over recent events in the region.

During their meeting, Mottaki and Syrian President Bashar Assad stressed on their support to Lebanon in the face of "Israeli" aggressions.

According to SANA news agency, both officials discussed in the Syrian northern coast city of Lattakia, bilateral talks, stepping into escalation of events on the regional level, especially the situation in Lebanon after the "Israeli" violations and aggressions against Lebanon's sovereignty.

In further discussions, Mottaki and Assad believed the need to form an Iraqi government of national unity, while on the Palestinian level; they discussed the brutal "Israeli" violations in the occupied territories, in addition to stressing on the importance of lifting the "Israeli" siege over the Gaza Strip.

Concerning Iran's nuclear program, Syrian President Bashar Assad reaffirmed his refusal of the UN and US imposed sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, hoping to witness progress over this issue with diplomatic means.
