The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) said that it will not support the US imposed sanctions against Iran, referring that these sanctions will not have any effect on the Country's economy.
According to IRNA, ECO Secretary General Mohammad Yahya Maroufi said, "The organization as an economic institute will not support the imposition of sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran".
Maroufi added, "These sanctions have no effect on Iran's economy, and this country along with other ECO member states will continue to progress".
ECO was established to be an intergovernmental regional organization which promotes economic, technical, and cultural cooperation, elements which the US targeted in Iran by imposing its sanctions.
The US, leading a load of western countries, has been accusing Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program, although Iran has been rejecting such accusations, stressing that its nuclear program is strictly peaceful.
Iran is signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and its nuclear firms are under the supervision of the UN nuclear watchdog.
