Berri to As-Safir: US Ambassador’s Intervention in Parliamentary Consultations Is A Scandal
Local Editor
Lebanon's Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri assured that "the US Ambassador Maura Connelly's visit to MP Nicolas Fattoush in Zahleh is a barefaced scandal." He considered that "What John Kerry did in Sudan is exactly what Maura Connelly is doing in Lebanon, it demonstrates the blatant US interference in the internal affairs of independent countries."
Speaker Berri, in a statement to As-Safir newspaper, denounced the interference of the US ambassador in the details of parliamentary consultations. He underscored that "this attitude assures that the real battle is with the United States." Yet, Berri stressed "I am positive that MP Fattoush does not easily give up his national convictions even under pressure or influence."
