Turkish, Qatari Foreign Ministers Hold Talks with Suleiman, Berri over Lebanese Crisis
Local Editor
After being assigned by the Syrian-Qatari-Turkish trilateral summit, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmad Davutoglu and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Al Thani paid an official visit to Lebanon on Tuesday.
The officials were received in the Presidential Palace in Baabda by Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, where the three parts held a 30 minute meeting, and left without giving out any statement.
The Presidential statement issued, referred that due to the standards stated in the trilateral summit (between Syrian President Bashar Assad, Saudi Kind Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz and Lebanese President Michel Suleiman) held in Baabda, the Turkish and Qatari Foreign Ministers visited the Lebanese Presidential Palace in Baabda to listen to President Suleiman's perspectives, adding that the talks were deep and useful.
The statement also referred to the Saudi-Syria efforts which were in coordination with the President, and the continuation of the efforts launched from Damascus in the meeting between President Assad, Qatari Prince Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Turkish PM Recep Tayyeb Erdogan. The statement said these were major reasons for the Foreign Ministers' visit.
The second stop in the Foreign Ministers' visit was to Ein Al Tineh where they met with Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri.
Upon question, Nabih Berri referred that the Saudi-Syrian efforts are always a major important issue.
The Turkish and Qatari Foreign Ministers are expected to visit Lebanese former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
