Speaker Berri: Lebanon is Passing Through ’’Constitutional Earthquake’’, Foreign Interference to Worsen Crisis
Local Editor
Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri confirmed that what is happening in Lebanon is a constitutional "earthquake", which will not result in any economic or security repercussions unless foreign interferences sought to lead Lebanon into a worse situation.
In a speech delivered on behalf of him by MP Robert Ghanem in the second conference for the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Member States held in Abu Dhabi, Speaker Berri stressed that Lebanon will be an example for the calm conciliation on the basis of ending the political crisis, where it needed a constitutional shock.
Berri confirmed that through dialogue and the Arab-Islamic support, Lebanon will be able to rearrange its government and the Lebanese status.
Lebanese Speaker called upon Islamic parliaments to examine what is happening in the region of racial, sectarian, and social tensions.
He also urged them to note that Lebanon is being subject to the same strategic pressures and chaos, which aim at building a new Middle East.
In the same context, Berri affirmed the importance of enhancing the role of the Christians in the east, also of maintaining their religious and civil rights.
Speaker Nabih Berri added that the region is facing a huge conspiracy, which aims at pushing Christians of the east to emigrate from the region.
Nabih Berri received a phone call today, Wednesday, from Iranian Speaker of Parliament Ali Larijani while taking part in the conference. Both sides discussed recent Lebanese developments, and Larijani condemned the US interference in sabotaging the Lebanese conciliation.
Speaker Berri hopes from Larijani to support his [Berri's] two provisions proposed earlier concerning the situation in Al Quds (Jerusalem), and in protecting the Christians of the East.
