Speaker Berri to Hariri: Enough Defending the Premiership, Defense is of Personal Interests

Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri's media bureau responded to what was published by the caretaker PM Saad Hariri's media bureau, on the level of the scandalous agreement, enrolled in the Special Tribunal file.

Hariri's media bureau stated in its statement that Medias should ask for a statement done by the other team, which aims at dismantling the Taef accord, and taking over the Premiership.

Speaker Berri affirmed that the road map for conciliation which was established in the framework of the Saudi-Syrian negotiations, is not the same one stressed on by the Qatari-Turkish efforts.

In this context, Berri referred that the Premiership of the caretaker government handed the Qatari-Turkish delegation the paper published in the newspapers, in an attempt to mislead and fail the efforts.

Speaker Nabih Berri's media bureau referred that the opposition demanded the following in the presented document:

- An overall formula for the national conciliation that cancels the presence of two teams [opposition and March 14 coalition] through a national salvation government

- An implementation of the Taef Accord without any discretion

- A commitment to the Doha Agreement

- An implementation of the national dialogue requirements

The opposition also demanded, according to Speaker Berri's Media Bureau, the establishment of an internal system for the Ministerial Council as was present when Elias Al Hrawi was PM.

The statement added that this system should be under a law that would prevent the current forging in requirements and publishing them, in a content that contradicts the reason of its issuance.

Berri stated that the other team's stances are defending the Premiership, but in fact are defending their own interests.

The opposition demanded the law to redistribute the ministerial sovereign portfolios, in a way that no ministry is subject to only one sect.

Speaker Barri's statement affirmed that the opposition is concerned with the Prime Minister, referring that they are obedient to the law and constitution for the best of Lebanon.
