Mikati: I am a centrist and Aim at Forming National Government
Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced his candidacy for the premiership in a statement issued by his office.
The former premier voiced his ambition for the "cooperation of all Lebanese to form a work team in solidarity to bring the country out of this severe crisis."
"The basis of this candidacy is my conviction that the maintenance of national peace and the fortification of the domestic arena in the face of expected challenges require a collective national stand."
"I do not view my candidacy as a challenge to anyone, but as an opportunity to rejoin what has been cut among these leaders."
Mikati also said that current disputes can be resolved through dialogue, adding, "I will strive mightily, if I am chosen to form the cabinet, to re-establish trust among Lebanese leaders."
Answering a question on whether he is the Opposition's candidate, Mikati said "I consider myself as a centrist, and I thank all those who gave me trust so that I can interpret my choices and convictions."
