Violent Hariri Supporters and Their “Day of Rage”
Local Editor
We won't resort to street action and this game has nothing to do with our patriotic ethics... Yet on ground, Hariri supporters and Future Party members were rioters who went berserk in the different regions of Lebanon, expressing their "Democratic" rage with everything but responsible actions, attacking, assaulting burning tires and garbage, shooting fire, throwing stones and grenades... Not only the news reporters and TV crew members were targets to these rioters with blown fuses, the army was as well.
"We won't resort to street action and this game has nothing to do with our patriotic ethics," the head of the caretaker government Saad Hariri said a few days ago stressing that he only follows constitutional means. The former PM addressed the people on January 20 "We accept any outcome of the constitutional process regardless of street action." Indeed did they accept the outcome, and apply democracy!
Protests turned violent on Tuesday in Lebanon's Tripoli as frenzied demonstrators torched Al Jazeera SNG while protesting the democratic candidacy of former Premier Mikati.
Angry demonstrators set upon the vehicle, smashing the windshield and tearing down the satellite dish before setting it on fire, AFP reported.
Several photographers witnessed attacks in the capital Beirut as well as Saida were attacked by stone-throwing and baton-wielding demonstrators.
The demonstrators in Tripoli also attacked a building housing the offices of lawmaker Mohammed Al Safadi breaking windows, doors and throwing furniture from the second-floor balcony. Mikati's office in Tripoli was also attacked in similar circumstances.
