Jumblatt: Hariri Should Learn Lessons in Geopolitics to Maintain Stability, Security of Lebanon
Head of the "National Struggle Front" MP Walid Jumblatt said he named Miqati as premier when he saw that "the door to the Syrian-Saudi settlement's success had been shut", particularly by the United States. He noted that former PM Saad Hariri could have completed the settlement but he is already late, adding that circumstances might have prevented him from doing so.
Jumblatt addressed former premier Saad Hariri saying "Sheikh Saad has to excuse me for saying, he should learn the lessons of geopolitics in order to maintain security and stability in our country." The PSP leader added in an interview with Al Watan Qatari newspaper, "Hariri is out of the government today but could return tomorrow without any problem." He further hoped the political disagreement between him and Hariri would not end their personal friendship.
On another note, Jumblatt stressed that he was "targeted during the Day of Rage in which Future movement supporters protested Hariri was not nominated again for premiership. He assured that "The Lebanese do not need advices from Washington, particularly from the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton."
Jumblatt also re-admitted he accused Damascus of assassinating former Premier Rafik Hariri without any evidence, adding "our accusations were based on evidences and testimonies similar to those of Hollywood movies. I accused Syria earlier and now I defend a historic and objective relation between us and Syria."
As for Hariri's participation in the Mikati government, Jumblatt said "If I was Sheikh Saad I would have participated in Najib Miqati's government without hesitation."
He clarified that Future bloc leader Seniora "hopes (to see) Hariri failing so that he returns to the premiership."
On MP Marwan Hamedeh leaving the democratic Gathering Bloc, Jumblatt refused to comment, saying that "the tribunal will decide if he (Marwan Hamedeh) has been involved in the false witnesses' issue."
