Williams Calls for Formation of Government that Meets Lebanese People’s Expectations
Local Editor
US Secretary General Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Michael Williams, hoped Lebanese premier-designate Najib Miqati should be able to form a new government that would meet all the Lebanese people's expectations.
In this context, Michael Williams stated that in a country as diverse as Lebanon, it is very important to take into consideration the interests of all the Lebanese people.
After meeting with head of Lebanese Phalange Movement, Amine Jmayyel, Williams said he affirmed to Jmayyel the UN stance that dialogue remains the major aspect in solving any disputes.
The UN Special Coordinator also referred to the importance of implementing the UN Security Council resolution 1701, further expecting the new government, in addition to all the Lebanese parties, to abide by their international commitments.
Upon question, Michael Williams said he does not know when the indictment will be issued; pointing out it is a legal issue, while he is a diplomatic figure. He then added that everyone, including the UN, should wait until the tribunal decides on the indictment issuance date.
